Background
- The proposed project location is in Revelstoke, BC.
- Usage is an indoor rock climbing facility.
- Aesthetic features include a single slope roof with 3' overhangs around the full perimeter to give the building a modern appearance.
Design Considerations
- Revelstoke has an exceptionally high snow load of 7.2 kPa (151 psf). To support the loads imposed on the roof due to the heavy snow, more steel is required in the framing (larger columns and rafters, and tighter purlin spacing) which has a significant impact on the cost of the building.
- Energy compliance path was based on ASHRAE 90.1. Revelstoke falls under zone 6A according to ASHRAE 90.1-2016.
- Cavity fill insulation systems were chosen for the roof and walls to comply with ASHRAE 90.1-2016.
- Purlin depth of 12” was required to due to the high snow load and also to provide a large 12” cavity to fill with insulation.
- Wall Girt depth of 10” was selected for cavity fill insulation system.

- Steel Materials pricing includes primary and secondary framing, standing seam roof system, gutters and downspouts, wall cladding, framed openings and trims for doors and windows.
- Insulation Materials pricing includes cavity fill insulation in the roof and walls with a fabric liner system.
